Designer/Drafter – Checker / Quality Controller

International Quest Engineering Ltd. (IQE) has an opportunity for an experienced Designer/Drafter to join our team at their Prince George, British Columbia location. In this role, you will have the opportunity to assist with the development of structural and mechanical designs for industrial projects for the wood products, mining and energy sectors, as well as commercial projects. 

Job Description:

This position provides the opportunity to play an integral role in a wide range of projects, combining the structural and mechanical disciplines. Projects include new greenfield designs as well as modifications to existing structures. The primary focus of this role is to act in a QA/QC role checking drawings and models. As a secondary role, the individual will be involved in design and drafting for structural or mechanical projects.

 

Additional duties include liaising with internal engineering and drafting personnel and field measurements. The preferred candidate will be a technologist with 5+ years of experience relating to structural or mechanical design and drafting. This role requires a solid understanding of construction processes including steel erection, welding, and integration of mechanical and structural systems. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Checking of drawings for structural and mechanical disciplines against standards/project requirements

  • Checking of models for structural and mechanical disciplines for completeness and accuracy

  • Maintaining and updating drafting and modeling standards

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Structural or mechanical design/drafting, modeling

  • Create technical drawings, models, calculation packages, studies and reports

Qualifications:

  • Technologist Diploma (structural, mechanical, drafting) or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in industrial structural design or mechanical design

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a positive and team-oriented attitude

  • Attention to detail and strives for excellence

  • Proficient in AutoCAD

  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks Manage, and Advanced Steel would be an asset

  • Ability/willingness to work in the field occasionally

  • Valid BC driver’s license

Wage Range: $34 - $42 per hr
