Structural Engineer - Intermediate

International Quest Engineering Ltd. (IQE) has an available opportunity for a well-rounded, articulate Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our team at their Prince George, British Columbia location. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop, plan and coordinate structural designs for heavy industrial projects for the wood products, mining and energy sectors as well as commercial projects.

Job Description:

This is a growth-oriented position with a variety of tasks ranging from design work in the office to field work at a job site. The successful candidate will be responsible for structural designs related to industrial facilities and, to a lesser degree, commercial projects. Projects include new greenfield designs as well as modifications to existing structures. In this intermediate engineering role, the individual will be responsible for projects involving general civil engineering knowledge, foundation design, concrete, steel and wood structural design. Additional duties include providing applications expertise to the design team, liaising with internal engineering personnel, drawing and design checks, secondary reviews, and involvement with on-site project management. The preferred candidate will be a professional engineer having the P.Eng. designation, with 5+ years of experience relating to industrial buildings and industrial equipment foundations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, and software

  • Perform field activities such as field reviews and inspections, provide on-site support to tradespersons when required, produce field reports, observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements

  • Structural engineering design, and layout

  • Develop project specifications

  • Contribute to the structural engineering portion of project proposals

  • Review and certify structural design drawings

  • Act as Engineer of Record and as the designated client contact

  • Handle routine contract administration

  • Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents

  • Take an active interest in promoting the business interests of the company and pursue opportunities to improve or expand the services offered

Qualifications:

  • BSc/Engineering with a major in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with principal focus in Structural Engineering

  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in good standing registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with EGBC and other provincial jurisdictions

  • 5+ years of structural engineering experience in the industrial / commercial field

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD & one or more analysis software packages such as S-Frame

  • Attention to detail

  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge is an asset

  • Ability/willingness to work in the field

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
